XXVII Conference, “Resilient and sustainable transport and tourism: evidence, strategies and policies”

Call for papers
We are pleased to announce that the XXVII
Conference of the Italian Society of Transport Economics and Logistics
(SIET) will be on the September 8th-9th, 2025 will be organized by the Laboratory of Applied Economics (LEA),
Department of Economics, Management and Business Law of the University of Bari Aldo Moro, and will
be held in Monopoli. The title of this year’s Conference is “Resilient and sustainable transport and tourism: evidence,
strategies and policies”.
The conference is part of the GRINS research project – Growing Resilient,
INclusive and Sustainable - Spoke 7 “Territorial Sustainability” research activities
(CUPH93C22000650001).
On the 7th of September a special event within the project “Puglia Mobility Game” (RAISE, PNRR M4C2
SPOKE 1 “Ambienti e servizi urbani accessibili ed inclusivi” CUP H91I24000170005), will be organised on
“Gaming to change urban transport behaviour: from cars to bikes and public transport”.
Furthermore, a crash course on Policy Evaluation has been organized and will run from Saturday to Sunday (September 6-7, 2025), further details will circulate soon (guest lecturer Prof. Guido Pellegrini, Università Sapienza Roma).
The conference aims to promote academic debate and in-depth scientific interactions among
researchers and experts on recent advances in transport economics, the nexus of tourism and mobility,
the impact of networks and infrastructures on local contexts, and the evaluation of place-based policies
on firms, consumers, and territories. The conference will host keynote lectures by international experts
and encourage discussions with local and national stakeholders.
Theoretical and empirical papers are welcomed on the Conference topics and related issues, including (but not limited to) energy-efficient and environmentally friendly transport; transport policy from both micro and macroeconomic perspectives; smart connected mobility and logistics; urban mobility; modal and intermodal competition; market structure; financing, pricing, and regulation of infrastructures and services; investment analysis; multilevel governance; logistics; freight distribution and last-mile delivery; maritime and inland port connections; innovation; internationalization; the impact of tariffs on global trade and logistics, ICT; e-commerce and logistics; networks; mobility and tourism; cruise and nautical activities; land management; urban economics; specific transport sectors (maritime, aviation, rail); tourism economics. Proposals for dedicated sessions on specific issues and projects are encouraged. Proponents should send an abstract for the thematic session and a list of potential contributions and authors.
Keynotes
Professor Anming Zhang, University of British Columbia, will serve as the keynote speaker at this year’s conference.
Awards
During the conference, SIET will assign the following awards:
• the 2025 SIET Best Paper Award for the best
theoretical or empirical paper presented at the XXVII SIET Conference by
a young researcher (under 35 years). The winner will receive a prize of
€300 as well as a two-year free SIET membership;
• the 2025 SIET Best Doctoral thesis for the
best Doctoral thesis on Transport economics and Logistics examined in
the 2024 calendar year or by April 2025. The winner will receive a prize
of €1000 well as a three-year free SIET membership.
